Position Summary

This position requires strong problem-solving skills, broad knowledge of Mechanical systems (HVAC, controls, refrigerants, plumbing, compressed gasses, etc.) and the ability to resolve initially undefined scenarios. Responsibilities include the design of complex integrated mechanical systems, which includes and is not limited to the conceptualization, system level architecture, design, investigation, evaluation and implementation of cooling, ventilation, fire protection, controls, specialized filtration, pressurization and refrigerant systems. This work relates to new and existing installations and includes limited work with electrical and fire detection systems. The individual within this position shall oversee the work and shall promote the personal and professional development of junior engineers and technicians. This position includes a high degree of contact with clients, contractors, consultants and operating personnel, which require the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. The individual must be able to work and solve problems independently and manage multiple concurrent projects.

Preferred Experience

  • Four-year Engineering Degree required from an ABET accredited university, Masters preferred
  • 10+ Years related Engineering Experience
  • Professional Engineer in Virginia, Maryland, and District of Columbia
  • Security Clearance preferred, ability to obtain security clearance mandatory
  • Equipment specific certifications (e.g. Liebert/Vertiv iCOM, Mitsubishi VRF installation and service, Multistack Air-Cooled system)

Requisite Skills

  • Able to complete project from start to finish without direction
  • Proficient with drafting 2D and 3D CAD with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Familiar with ASHRAE, SMACNA, IMC standards
  • Proficient in load calculation software (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP)

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works closely with Project Managers to evaluate and define project scope.
  • Prepares engineering calculations, designs and specifications for a wide variety of HVAC, refrigeration and fire protection projects as well as in support of electrical and fire protection projects.
  • Leads and manages technical project team through the entire project completion Prepare and review mechanical drawings, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with project requirements.
  • Performs engineering analysis, including static pressure loss, pump head, and energy modeling, ensuring systems meet performance goals.
  • Evaluates technical challenges and determines optimum solutions.
  • Primary responsibility for all technical aspects of projects assigned.
  • Utilize SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and/or Revit MEP to produce 3D models, coordinate with other disciplines, and resolve design conflicts.
  • Conducts FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analyses as needed for performance verification.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs to ensure design intent and technical accuracy.
  • Manage multiple projects, balancing schedules, budgets, and resources to deliver high-quality results.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and professional development support.
  • Implement and maintain internal Quality Control processes, including peer review and self-check protocols.
  • Support field activities including site surveys, commissioning support, construction administration, installation, and mechanical equipment troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and other disciplines to ensure alignment of design intent with project goals.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $110,000 - $150,000 per year
